Many people, particularly in underserved regions, lack access to basic financial services due to limited traditional banking infrastructure. While digital wallets can lower this barrier, poor connectivity and low digital literacy create additional constraints. The design challenge was to create a mobile wallet that remained usable with limited signal, simplified identity verification, and enabled core financial tasks without adding complexity for first-time users.

Spark Wallet focused on core financial actions required for daily use, prioritising clarity, speed, and accessibility:
Split payments: Divide shared expenses across multiple users without manual calculations.
Send money: Transfer funds to saved beneficiaries with minimal steps.
Pay bills: Settle recurring and ad hoc bills directly from the wallet.
Request loan: Access short-term credit for immediate cash flow needs.
Savings goals: Create and track savings targets within the app.
Scaling Spark Across Regions
Spark scaled across 8 countries, each with distinct regulatory, language, and user needs. Supporting this required designing and maintaining over 300 mobile screens while ensuring the core experience remained consistent and usable across markets.
